The American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham Vietnam), in cooperation with HCMC Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, organize the blood wave (Jun 12 to Jun 21) of blood donation in honor of the AmCham World Blood Donor Day, with the theme “What can you do?” and the second message “Give blood. Give now. Give often. The event is organized at 6 locations, namely Oriflame Vietnam (Phu Nhuan District),Victoria Healthcare (Distric 1 and Phu Nhuan District) Nike Office at Metropolitan (District 1) Hoa Sen University (District 1), Sheraton Saigon Hotel and Towers (District 1) and Caravelle Hotel (District 1)
World Blood Donor Day is one of the activities that WHO carries out globally to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors who save lives everyday. 2017 marks the 14th anniversary of countries worldwide cooperating to organize this meaningful activity. This year’s campaign will highlight stories from people whose lives have been saved through blood donation, as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood and people in good health who have never given blood, particularly young people, to begin doing so.
Today, in just 62 countries, national blood supplies are based on close to 100% voluntary unpaid blood donations. Besides, demand exceeds supply, and blood services face the challenge of making sufficient blood available, while also ensuring its quality and safety. An adequate supply can only be assured through regular donations by voluntary unpaid blood donors.
2017 marks the 14th year of World Blood Donnor Day organized by World Health Orginazation (WHO) as well as the very first time Viet Nam becomes the host country of this event. Blood Donor Day 2017 global event was officially launched at 10th Pink Spring Festival on 18th Feb, in Hanoi.
Though voluntary blood donation increased nearly 8% last year, donated blood only satisfies about 60% of the nationwide need. Therefore, we at AmCham Vietnam have called for more volunteers, families, colleagues and friends to join this year. From 2011 up to now, the event gradually becomes the familiar day for AmCham members to donate blood. In 2017, the program also received many interests and frequent supports from enterprises such as Liberty Insurance Limited, Victoria Healthcare International Clinics, Coca-Cola Vietnam, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam, Hoa Sen University, Nike Vietnam, Oriflame Vietnam, and Saigon Metropolitan Tower. Together, we can develop widespread voluntary participation and promote the initiative of the FDI sector in HCMC and in Vietnam.
