Renaissance has been entering students for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education exams for 4 years now and has seen students achieve great success. The Cambridge IGCSEs as they are more familiarly known, are sat by 16 year old students in many countries worldwide. They are a recognized standard and allow schools to judge student’s ability and potential for studies in the International Baccalaurean Diploma Programme (IBDP) in the final two years of schooling.
This year’s results at Renaissance were excellent with 4 of our students being awarded 8 Grade As when the results were released by the Cambridge exam board. One student from Vietnam became our most successful yet with 6A*s and 3 As and joins an elite group of students worldwide to succeed at that level. Studying for 8 or 9 IGCSEs can be hard work but the benefits are great.
Students with such certificates are recognized for completing a British style examination. They are recognized by universities in both Asia, Europe and North America as being a leading 16+ certification. Furthermore the exams themselves are excellent preparation for IBDP study. The growth in schools offering the exam is testament to the fact they give a student’s resume genuine credibility.
Renaissance School is dedicated to supporting academic success and although only 7 years old is now recognized as a leading international school in Ho Chi Minh. Smaller and more family orientated than some of the bigger schools in the city, the results show that small classes, attention to detail and most importantly strong and individual support for students, does bring success.
That success was recognized in a special Renaissance celebratory assembly on Friday 18th October. Students were awarded their IGCSE certificates, but that was only half the event as leading students were presented with their scholarship certificates. Renaissance recognized the top students with 100% scholarships for study in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. With such a strong core of students in the IB Programme Renaissance can expect some outstanding IB results and university places once these students graduate in 2015.

Renaissance proudly hosted this year’s Students’ Charity Art Auction. It is the second time the school has held this event, with all money raised going to GoVap Orphanage. Primary and secondary student artists kindly donated their time and all of the artwork to guarantee the auction was a great success. Our wonderfully enthusiastic and caring students acted as auctioneers, attendants, porters and entertainers to ensure this was a very special night.
There was something for everyone – with a vast variety of themes, art styles and compositions from Modern art to Impressionism, collage to paintings and sculptures. The quality and creativity of the work would be difficult to match even in many professional galleries.
An eager public packed the auction room and bidding was fun and friendly…but competitive…with hundreds of dollars being bid for each item. The silent auction part of the evening was just as exciting with the top price continually changing as each new person made an offer.
With over 100.000.000 VND raised, the kindness and generosity of our school community ensured that this was an evening to remember for all concerned. “
As well as the Art Auction, our school commits to other supporting projects with GoVap Orphanage. A group of twenty IB students visit the orphanage every week to teach, sing, dance and play games with the children who live there. It is aptly called ‘The Buddy Scheme’ as each of our students are ‘buddied’ or paired with a child from the orphanage who they develop a close and supportive relationship with. It is heart-warming to watch these relationships develop as both the students and the orphans develop life skills and benefit in so many ways from these interactions.
Once this bond was created, the students wanted to do more to help their new friends and so we set up ‘Play Days’ for our students and the children at the orphanage. Our students organise different games and activities at our school on Saturdays throughout the year, including swimming, sports and art for the children of all ages from 2-18 years old. We have now had two and look forward to enjoying this again next term.
Our collaboration with GoVap Orphanage has proved to be such a valuable experience for both the orphanage and our school as we dedicate our hearts and minds to learning about each other’s lives.Read More →
