Board of Governors - 2007

The duties of the Chapter Board of Governors are to oversee and make policy decisions with respect to the functions sponsored by the Chapter, to select the officers of the Chapter, to promote relations with other chambers of commerce and other relevant organizations, and to make decisions on matters affecting the Chapter when the General Meeting is not sitting. It may not act contrary to expressed wishes of the General Meeting without prior reference to it and the decisions of each Chapter Board of Governors shall be subordinate to the decisions of the General Meetings.

Golf

Holds events at the finest golf courses in Vietnam, Organizes the annual January Dalat Winter Weekend and Roundtable, April 30-May 1 Family Weekend and Golf Outing at the Ocean Dunes Golf Club & Resort in Phan Thiet, and November Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot. Human Resources

Monitor and report on personnel, employment, and human resource developlment issues in Vietnam in general and in AmCham member firms in particular. Activities include:

  • Create informational networking opportunities for AmCham member firms’ HR managers.
  • Maintain liaison with the Vietnamese Government and other local HR organizations.

IT Information Technology

Vice-Chair: Karl Theisen

Help expand sales of AmCham member firms’ ICT goods and services and help new-to-market members develop. Serve as a forum and focal point to discuss and review industry and government ICT developments. Provide industry positions and viewpoints on relevant sectoral issues. Build the bandwidth of communication between industry in Vietnam and industry in US and increase business between the two. Projects include: (1) develop information for prospective outsourcing customers and (2) develop information needed for new investors’ market entry decisions.

Legal & VBF Liaison

Monitors and strives to influence legislation and administrative regulations in Vietnam. The committee conducts seminar and speaker programs designed to increase awareness of major legal issues and also serves as a focus for the American law firms in Vietnam. In addition, the committee actively participates in the work of the “Vietnam Business Forum,” along with other international business associations and Vietnamese authorities, to help improve the environment for foreign direct investment in Vietnam.

Logistics & Supply Chain Management

Promotes the development of the logistics and supply chain management industry within Vietnam. To achieve this, the committee will focus on the following key areas:

  • Global, Regional and US regulatory issues affecting member companies – ease of trade and development of the logistics and supply chain infrastructure.
  • Share and leverage industry best practices to promote the value of Vietnam as a developing market for the logistics and supply chain and related industries.
  • Create an additional learning channel for companies not directly involved in the logistics and supply chain industry but also shippers and manufacturers that engage in or manage related logistics and/or supply chain functions in their businesses.

Security (OSAC Country Council)

Focuses on health, safety, and environmental aspects of the workplace and overseas living and travel.

Promotes awareness of security, safety, and fire prevention for the benefit of Chamber members and in support of the economic development of Vietnam.

The Committee’s membership includes a broad mixture of industry professionals, security and consular staff from the US Consulate General in HCM City, as well as representatives of companies that want to keep abreast of local security issues, trends and services that can be provided through the Committee.

The Committee will focus on education, health and safety, and disaster relief. With guidance from United Way International, counterparts in the region, and Global Standards for United Way Organizations, implement fund-raising and allocation techniques that have been pioneered and proven to work in United Way’s 100-year history and in over 43 countries.
