Environment pollution, especially littering, has been a major problem all over the world, including Vietnam. Coming from the urgent need to reduce this matter, Earth Day was celebrated for the very first time on April, 22, 1970. It activated 20 million Americans from all walks of life and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. Twenty years later, it has become one of the largest civic observance in the world and annually encouraged more than 200 million people in 141 countries to take part in through Earth Day Network. In 2016, Earth Day’s theme was Trees for the Earth, with an ambitious goal of planting 7.8 billion trees – one for every person on the planet – by Earth Day 2020. This year, the theme for Earth Day 2017 is Environmental and Climate Literacy. It is believed that before we can solve the dire environmental threats facing us in the 21st century, we must build a global citizenry knowledgeable in environmental science and fluent in local and global ecological issues.

In the hope of spreading meaningful messages of Earth Day and responding to this environmental protection movement, on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2017, AmCham is cooperating with “Viet Nam Sach & Xanh” to hold a cleanup event at some places in Ho Chi Minh City. This cleanup activity mainly aims at raising awareness of environmental protection as well as creating a social movement on keeping our living conditions clean and green.

At the moment, we have fulfilled the number of volunteers at all three districts. Thank you very much for your time and interest during previous time.
