Event Description

The Vietnam International Arbitration Centre at the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VIAC) was established in 1993 on the basic of merging the Foreign Trade Arbitration Committee (founded in 1963) and the Marine Arbitration Committee (founded in 1964). VIAC is an independent and non-profit organization.

The objective of VIAC is to promote the dispute resolution method of arbitration or alternative dispute resolutions (ADR). VIAC has a strong desire of building up an objective, impartial and reliable method of dispute resolution which also ensures the effectiveness and convenience.

Speakers

Pham Nghia DungProf Dr Pham Duy Nghia
Lecturer, Fulbright Economic Teaching Program (FETP) and Faculty of Law, University of Economics HCMC.
Professor Pham Duy Nghia graduated at Leipzig University (Germany). He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar, Harvard Law School (2002-2003), Visiting Scholar, Stanford Law School in 1998. At FETP, he teaches Law and Public Governance, Public Policy and Research Methods of Public Policy. He has published a number of text books and journal articles on legal and governance issues. His recent research focuses on good governance, including perspectives how to enhance the people’s participation in policy making and to enhance the efficiency, transparency and accountability of government. He is a frequent commentator in leading news paper and media in Vietnam.  Professor Pham Duy Nghia was the head of drating team for the Law on Commercial Arbitration and has been an exprerienced Arbitrator at Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (the VIAC) with some 20 arbitration cases.

Phan Trong DatMr. Phan Trong Dat is currently the Deputy Director of Department of Promotion and Training of Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC). He is experienced in foreign trade, dispute resolution, marketing and project management. He has got the Bachelor’s degree in International Economics (Hanoi Foreign Trade University, Vietnam) and the MBA in Project Management (Nantes University, France).
Mr. Phan has been working at the VIAC since 2007. He served as secretary for over thirty (30) arbitration cases. He was a member of the Drafting Group of VIAC’s Conciliation Rules, 2007; VIAC’s Arbitration Rules, 2012; the proposed Mediation Proposal to IFC, 2013 , etc. As a Staff of the Danish Project Improvement of the Awareness and Use of Arbitration in Vietnam from 2005 to 2010,  Mr Dat conducted many activities relating to arbitration such as conferences, training courses and book publishment, etc. He regularly presents on arbitration and dispute resolution skills at conferences and training courses conducted by VIAC, VCCI and Vietnam Bar Association.
