Brought to you by ZICOlaw, “Conversation with ASEAN Insiders” aims at delivering series of panel discussions involving ASEAN experts as a platform to gather latest information and highlighting business opportunitiesin the ASEAN region.

In partnership with the Amcham Vietnam, “Conversation with ASEAN Insiders” on 27 May 2015 in Ho Chi Minh City brings together practitioners from ASEAN regions to discuss their views on the ASEAN Economic Community (“AEC”) and its impact on the region.

The economic landscape of Southeast Asia has been transformed by rapid economic growth and demographic transitions. Countries across the region have also been shaped by institutions for regional cooperation, hence this event will be an opportunity for business communities to gain insights on the issue directly from key players.

Stuart L. Dean, CEO of GE ASEAN  will share his thoughts on ASEAN based on his vast experience of operating in the region.

David Lim, the Managing Partner of ZICOlaw Vietnam will be the MC and will be speaking from Vietnam’s perspective. The panel includes Dr. Sok Siphana, Managing Partner of SokSiphana&associates who will be touching on Cambodia as well as AEC perceptions and economic integration. Chulapong Yukate, Executive Chairman of ZICOlaw Thailand will be speaking on Thailand, Myanmar and Laos.

CEO of GE ASEAN, GE Global Growth & Operations

Stu is a CEO of GE ASEAN at GE Global Growth & Operations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Stu began his career with GE in 1979 and has since then taken on various positions of increasing responsibility including Business Development Manager of GE International based in Singapore with responsibilities for Southeast Asia and Australia. Stu also became the President of GE Capital of Southeast Asia in 1993 and was also appointed as the President of GE Indonesia in 1995.

Stu is currently responsible for all of GE offices across ASEAN. Stu is also a Governor of the Malaysian American Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Vietnam-US committee of the US-ASEAN Business Council and on the boards of the US-Indonesia Society and the Fulbright Commission in Malaysia and the board of advisors for the Global GE Volunteer Foundation.

Managing Partner, ZICOlaw (Vietnam) Limited

David is a corporate lawyer with a strong emphasis in the foreign investment sector. Being based in Vietnam for more than 11 years, he advises extensively on foreign investment projects in Vietnam across a wide variety of sectors.

David brings extensive knowledge of the Law on Investments of Vietnam to foreign investment projects and has advised on acquisitions, strategic investments and private equity transactions.

David is actively involved in the Vietnam Business Forum which is an initiative started by the World Bank to engage in discussions with the Government on economic policy. As head of the Land Sub-Group, David is currently engaged with the Government on Land and Real Estate Law reform.

 

image004Dr. Sok Siphana

Managing Partner, SokSiphana&associates (a member of ZICOlaw)

Dr. Sok is a practicing attorney and the Principal at Sok Siphana&associates, a law and consulting firm specialized in international trade and corporate law in Phnom Penh. He was appointed by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen concurrently as Advisor of the Royal Government of Cambodia and Advisor to the Supreme National Economic Council with rank of Minister in August 2009 and November 2011 respectively. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI).

Dr. Sok served as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce on 1999 to 2005, where he worked extensively on issues related to trade policies and development, commercial legal framework and economic integration. During his service at the Ministry, he was also a negotiator in Cambodia’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Dr. Sok also served as Director at the International Trade Center (ITC) in Geneva, Switzerland from 2005 until 2009. He resumed legal practice in 2009.

 

image006Mr. Chulapong Yukate

Executive Chairman, ZICOlaw (Thailand) Limited

Chulapong has been in the private practice for more than 30 years and brings extensive knowledge particularly in the Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) region. Chulapong was the Assistant Chief Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of Thailand. In addition, he held the position of a Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dawei SEZ Development Company Limited, a joint venture between Thailand and Myanmar governments, to develop the deep seaport and special economic zone mega project in Dawei, Myanmar. Chulapong joined ZICOlaw as Chairman on September 2013 and is also the Senior Advisor of the ZICOlaw network.
