AmCham’s 20th Anniversary Dinner was held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 5:30 pm at The Reverie Saigon Hotel. The dinner celebrated 20 years of effort and achievement since AmCham’s informal establishment in Ho Chi Minh City March 1994, and the remarkable development of trade and investment relations between Vietnam and the United States since then, from “normalization,” to the Bilateral Trade Agreement, WTO Accession, and recently to “Comprehensive Partnership.” This business celebration featured gourmet fare, first class entertainment, and recognition of those that have contributed to our growth and development, including senior business and government leaders, and companies that have been with us since the early days. Looking back over the years, we are sure that you, together with AmCham, are proud of what we have achieved in cooperation with our friends and partners in Vietnam. Annual bilateral trade has increased from less than one billion dollars to an estimated $35 billion in 2014, and, remarkably, Vietnam is now one of the top three ASEAN exporters to the United States only seven years after WTO accession. At the same time, U.S. FDI interest in Vietnam is increasingly expanding out of consumer products produced in “partner factories” to modern high-technology manufacturing in U.S. company factories for sale in Vietnam and export to global markets. In addition to our trade and investment promotion efforts, AmCham companies have also concentrated on their corporate social responsibility, and we organize many activities, such as AmCham Scholarships programs, community development grants to small and medium Vietnam NGOs, community days (World Blood Donor Days, Coastal Cleanup and Environment Days).
