VietNamNet Bridge. Jun 28, 2008. The Can Tho Airport now under upgrade in the Mekong Delta will receive domestic passenger flights early 2009.
Modern facilities and equipment will be installed at the terminal, which was designed by the U.S.-Singapore consortium CPG-PAE.
This airport will be able to handle at least one million passengers and 5,000 tons of cargo every year until 2015 in line with a plan by the Ministry of Transport.
The airport is expected to become an international one by 2010, when it will receive long-haul airplanes. So, the next phase of the project will include extending the runway to 3,000 meters for the wide-bodied aircraft Boeing B777s and B747-400s to land and take off.
Can Tho Airport covers 388 hectares, with 38 hectares of which reserved for civil aviation.
