Global index provider FTSE Russell has announced a conditional upgrade of Vietnam to Emerging Markets status. This historically significant event is an unmitigated positive and should lead to substantial inflows of foreign capital going forward. According to the announcement, FTSE Emerging Markets inclusion is scheduled to be effective in September 2026, but this is subject to an interim review in March 2026 on “whether sufficient progress has been made in enabling access to global brokers”.
