Event Description
In the GDPR-focused segment, the seminar will address crucial issues in Vietnamese data protection, presented in English by Dr. Nguyen Van Tuan. Drawing on real case studies, Dr. Tuan will delve into the classification of ordinary and sensitive information, establishing processes and procedures for handling data breaches, and creating a control department to ensure data confidentiality. The discussion will also cover the consequences of non-compliance with European Union regulations, emphasizing fines of up to 4% of the enterprise’s total revenue. Meanwhile, he will share his experiences and practical insights, specifically tailored to assist the primarily in-house lawyer audience major corporations facing GDPR compliance challenges in Vietnam.
Shifting to the realm of bank debt collection, the seminar will explore issues specific to Vietnamese banks, discussed in English by Judge Emeritus Nguyen Cong Phu. Through real case studies, Judge Phu will address topics such as choosing between arbitration or court proceedings, determining jurisdiction based on specified courts, and addressing the statute of limitations concerning business and consumer loans. Practical considerations, such as securing collateral and summoning related parties, will be highlighted. Concurrently, he will share his experiences and practical insights, offering valuable guidance to the primarily in-house lawyer audience dealing with bank debt collection issues in Vietnam. This dual perspective aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory and practical challenges faced by the audience in their roles.

Nguyen Van Tuan
Partner, LNT & Partners Dr. Van Tuan Nguyen is a partner in charge of the firm’s Corporate practice group. With more than 22 years of legal experience, he has advised on a wide variety of matters including international private law, foreign investment, corporate compliance, intellectual property and dispute resolution. Prior to joining LNT & Partners, Dr. Nguyen was Deputy Director of Vietnam Airlines’ Legal Department, where he advised the Board of Director and CEO on issues of compliance with foreign laws, intellectual property, aircraft leasing and dispute resolution. He also previously worked as Head of International Private Law Division for the Ministry of Justice and was responsible for researching, drafting laws and acting as the Government’s legal counsel in negotiating various treaties, including FTAs and Investment Agreements such as BOT contracts and Government Guarantee and Undertakings (GGU). Dr. Nguyen is a visiting lecturer for undergraduate programmes on International Arbitration at Hanoi Law University and for Masters of Economics programmes on Media and International Business Law at National Economics University. He also gives lectures at Vietnam Judicial Academy on investor-state dispute resolution for Vietnamese lawyers and officials of various ministries, State agencies and provincial departments. Dr. Nguyen has authored numerous legal articles and books on foreign investment in Vietnam. |
Nguyen Cong Phu
Partner, LNT & Partners Mr. Nguyen Cong Phu is a partner in charge of the firm’s Dispute Resolution Practice Group and his experience spans over 21 years. His practice areas include reconciliation and resolution of commercial disputes arising from domestic and cross-border transactions, relating to goods transportation, construction investment, banking and finance, and cargo insurance. He also has extensive experience in handling intellectual property disputes, technology transfers, stock and bond transfers, company membership disputes and bankruptcy. Mr. Phu is a paneled arbitrator at Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) where he is appointed in many cases. Before joining LNT & Partners, Mr. Phu worked as a judge for the Economic Court of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court from 1999 to 2020, in which he settled more than 1000 trading dispute cases. He was also appointed as a Deputy Chief Justice of Economic Court of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court for 14 years. Currently, he is a visiting lecturer for Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, the Judicial Academy of the Ministry of Justice of Vietnam, the Academy of Supreme Court, HUTECH University and Ton Duc Thang University. Mr. Phu is a regular speaker at domestic and international forums. |
Vu Thanh Minh
Partner, LNT & Partners Ms. Thanh Minh Vu is a distinguished legal professional with a remarkable 17-year career spanning external and in-house counsel roles. Currently, she holds the esteemed position of Partner at LNT & Partners and serves as the Managing Partner of the Hanoi office. She also leads the firm’s Financial Services practice group. Throughout her career, Minh has provided expert legal counsel to a diverse clientele, including foreign investors, domestic companies, and regulatory agencies in Vietnam. Her expertise covers a wide range of areas, including tax, investment, banking and finance, energy and construction, infrastructure, corporate M&A, and labor law.
