Below is information that will help members and candidates have a better understanding of the commitment needed to be a member of the Board of Governors, and the roles and responsibilities of a Governor.

Responsibilities of a Member of the Board of Governors

Governors provide governance and strategic guidance to AmCham, whose primary objective is to ”…promote trade and investment between Vietnam and the United States.” Chambers of Commerce, in general, focus on “improving the business environment,” and offer opportunities to members for “networking, information sharing, problem solving.” Governors may participate in one or more Board Committees (Executive Committee, Nominating Committee, etc.) or participate in/act as Board Liaison to one or more of the other committees and guide committee activities to achieve AmCham’s objectives.

Board of Governors Meeting, usually the second Thursday of every month, 12:00 – 1:30 pm, especially important to be present for the “busy months” of Sep, Oct, and Nov in the Fall and Mar, Apr, May in the Spring. Jun-Jul-Aug and Dec-Jan-Feb are “slower months.” Governors are expected to be present unless they are out-of-town, have company visitors in town, or are sick.

Other regular meetings and events

Regular Board of Governors Breakfast with the Consul General and Key Staff, 8:00 – 9:00 am. Hosted roughly every other month by AmCham, Governors are expected to attend if they are in town.

AmCham Networking and Informational Events, Morning Briefings, Networking Nights, Member Lunches, Member Nights, Palooza Parties, etc.. Organized by AmCham committees or or companies, especially Sep-Oct-Nov and Mar-Apr-May. Governors are invited to attend if in town.

Representational Events with visiting officials/business leaders. These are ad hoc events for visiting U.S. Government officials (executive branch or legislative branch) and/or visiting U.S. business leaders who want to meet U.S. business representatives. Governors are invited to attend if they are in town.
