Japan’s Foreign Ministry bans PCI from ODA projects for two years for corrupt payments

Friday 15th August, 05:00 PM JST TOKYO. The Foreign Ministry has banned Japanese construction consultancy Pacific Consultants International from participating in the ministry’s foreign aid and other projects for two years, starting Friday, Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura said.

The suspension, the longest possible punishment under the ministry’s rules concerning pernicious acts by firms involved in such projects, came after former and current senior PCI officials were arrested earlier this month on suspicion of providing bribes to win orders for Japanese-financed construction projects in Vietnam.
