Event Description

Jeff Dutton, U.S. International Trade Administration Market Access and Compliance Director for Asia Pacific, is traveling to Vietnam during the week of May 24. Jeff’s team helps U.S. exporters with trade agreements compliance and market access issues in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand.

Baker & McKenzie will host a meeting of the Hanoi and HCMC AmCham Legal Committees with Jeff to discuss the most pressing market access issues for U.S. companies.

We have also set up a conference bridge for those who are travelling (dial-in information is below).

About Jeffrey Dutton

Jeffrey Dutton is Director of the Office of the Pacific Basin (OPB) at the International Trade Administration (ITA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington. Ira Kasoff, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Asia, announced Mr. Dutton’s appointment in September 2009. Mr. Dutton has supervisory responsibility for a staff of fourteen international trade specialists who assist U.S. exporters with trade agreements compliance and market access issues in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand and who coordinate the Commerce Department’s engagement in APEC.

Previously, Mr. Dutton directed the Korea and Taiwan affairs team at ITA for three and a half years. From June 2006 through April 2007, he was the Commerce Department lead for negotiations on the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA). A Commerce employee since 1998, Mr. Dutton has also held export promotion and trade policy positions in ITA’s Office of NAFTA and Inter-American Affairs and Office of Automotive Affairs. He was a member of the U.S. negotiating teams for the U.S.-Chile FTA, the U.S.-Central America FTA, and the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). Prior to joining ITA, Mr. Dutton worked briefly for the Economic Analysis and Project Monitoring unit of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).

Mr. Dutton received his M.A. in International Relations from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University in 1997. A native of Arkansas, he received his B.A. in Spanish and International Studies from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1996. He has studied in Spain and Mexico, and he attended Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan as an exchange student during the 1994-1995 academic year. Mr. Dutton is married to Kei Koizumi, Assistant Director for Federal R&D at the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
