Sometimes a bar at a hotel restaurant is just that; other times it becomes a household name, a destination in itself. Such is the case with Martini Bar, which will be the new name of the bar adjoining Reflections Restaurant at the Caravelle Hotel.
“In the last couple of years, cocktail mixology has taken its rightful place in the pantheon of creative food-and-beverage endeavors,” said John Gardner, General Manager of the 5-star Caravelle. “And Martini Bar has forged its own identity, now acknowledged with this change in name. Plus, it sounds better than ‘the bar at Reflections Restaurant.’ ”
Not surprisingly, martinis, made with various combinations of premium spirits and other fresh flavors, will figure prominently in the new drink menu. And at VND 135,000, they promise to generate a loyal following.
But the Caravelle’s award-winning mixologists have a good deal more up their sleeves. Mr. Bui Viet Chinh, for example, won the Bacardi Cup in 2007, a citywide competition aimed to identify the best bartender.
Last year, Phan Hoang Nhan won a gold medal as the “Best Flair” bartender in the country at the Vietnam Bartender Cup Competition. His winning concoction was the FBM cocktail, a libation consisting of Bacardi light run, coffee nut syrup, Cointreau, and fresh milk.
“Great bartenders are showmen, confidants, alchemists,” noted Gardner. “We’re as proud of our bartending crew as we are of our great chefs and other staff, and we wanted them, and our customers, to have a place they can call their own.”
