Vietnam’s top technical universities, working with U.S. universities, Intel, and the U.S. and Vietnamese governments, have embarked on an ambitious initiative to modernize their engineering degree programs, in the “Higher Engineering Education Alliance Program.”

The program is still in its inception, and we invite other industry to learn about the program and to join in the effort, upgrade the quality of technical education in Vietnam. This will ensure that Vietnamese universities are prepared to meet the demand for a highly-skilled workforce as more modern manufacturing FDI comes to Vietnam.

The aim of this strategic alliance is to develop and advance interdisciplinary and applied engineering curriculum through instructional innovation to Vietnamese technical universities. Vietnamese faculty are being trained in “active” teaching methodology,” and are working to transform today’s theory-based engineering curricula into strong academic and hands-on degrees.

About the Speakers

Jeffrey Goss, Asst Dean, Arizona State UniversityJeffrey Goss has served as the Executive Director for the Office of Global Outreach and Extended Education and Assistant Dean in the Ira A Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University for the past seven years.

Mr. Goss has over 18 years’ experience in professional and executive education collectively at University of Maryland, George Washington University, University of Michigan, and Arizona State University. At ASU’s Fulton School of Engineering , Mr. Goss leads Global Engagement, ASUEngineeringOnline graduate degree programs, and Executive/Professional Development programs. His research areas include global workforce development learning models and the development and application of new technologies and distributed-media models for adult learning.

Under Mr. Goss’ direction, thousands of global engineering professionals from various corporate organizations have advanced their companies and employee’s careers with training through executive seminars, certifications, short courses and media distributed graduate degree programs.

Roma Arellano, Intel WorkForce Development ManagerRoma Arellano, is Workforce Development Manager (Intel Vietnam) and HR Site Selection Manager at Intel Corporation.

Previous positions include Staffing Mgr, Mfg Division, Worldwide Community Education Manager, and Workforce Development/Technician Recruiting Manager.

Through the Higher Engineering Education Alliance Program (HEEAP), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Arizona State University Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (ASU), Portland State University Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science (PSU) and Intel Corporation will collaborate with top technical universities in Vietnam to advance their Electrical and Mechanical Engineering curricula, considered the “bread and butter” degrees for technology manufacturing.

The goal is to develop a highly skilled technical workforce that will attract and sustain a healthy high-tech manufacturing industry, thus positioning Vietnam to compete among high-tech centers of excellence.
