Raising Vietnam’s “Ease of Doing Business” ranking

HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam is seeking to improve its business environment, which has also been recognised by the Government as a vital task for ensuring economic growth and competitiveness in the economy.

As part of the effort, the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) jointly held a conference on Mar 12 to discuss measures to implement the Government’s Resolution and enhance the country’s ease of doing business index, which is ranked by the World Bank. U.S-backed Alliance to Facilitate Trade through Public-Private Dialogue

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, represented by its Ho Chi Minh City Chapter, (AmCham), the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support the establishment of the Vietnam Trade Facilitation Alliance (VTFA). The MOU was witnessed by representatives of leading business associations, including VITAS (Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association), LEFASO (Vietnam Leather, Footwear, and Handbag Association), HAWA (Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of HCM City), and LBC (Leading Business Club). Trade Facilitation Support Program Launched by WB, EU, USA, Canada, Australia, Norway

It will help countries reform their trade facilitation practices in a manner consistent with the main components of the new WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), signed in Bali, December 2013.

The Program will focus on the effective implementation of trade facilitation reforms in developing countries to enhance private sector competitiveness, thus leading to increased trade, investments and job creation. Read more

Technical assistance to help Vietnam implement TPP, 2014 – 2018

It’s a program to help implement the Trans-Pacific Partnership. This is not aid. I want to make that clear. On Jan 14, USAID signaled its robust support for the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership with an event to launch its Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS), which outlines the USAID’s development assistance program in Vietnam from 2014 through 2018.  At the event, USAID signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Justice to officially begin USAID’s new “Governance for Inclusive Growth” program.
