IATA Director General proposes visa waivers, e-freight for Vietnam

Tyler identified the implementation of IATA’s Fast Travel program and the easing of visa requirements as key factors to improve passenger experience in Vietnam.

“Every tourist that decides to take a holiday in a neighboring country because of Vietnam’s visa process is a lost economic opportunity. Easing visa requirements can boost tourism,” he said.

He encouraged Vietnam to implement the six Fast Travel initiatives, including self check-in, self-bag tagging, electronic document kiosks, flight rebooking, self-boarding and bag recovery. Read more

Vietnam’s Airline Industry Takes Off

DPEP Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Expressway Project (HCM City – Phan Thiet)

Proposed to be developed on a new alignment as a 4-lane expressway of length 98.7 km, the DPEP is the first PPP project being undertaken in the toll road sector in Vietnam.

The DPEP is proposed to be developed through the DBFOT model. The concession period proposed for the project is 30 years.

The MOT intends to award the concession for the development of the DPEP to a group of entities. The MOT has identified M/s Binh Minh Import-Export Production and Trade Company Ltd. (BITEXCO) as the first investor in the DPEP.

The MOT now intends to select the second investor for the project through an international competitive bidding process. The investors shall incorporate a project enterprise in Vietnam for the implementation of the project.

The estimated capital investment in the DPEP is $757 million. Read more

We received your letter on April 5th, 2013 regarding the unilateral visa exemption policy of Vietnam. On behalf of Consular Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I would like to response as following:

  • The unilateral visa exemption policy of Vietnam has issued by our basis of considering the effectives of this policy as well as political, security, economic.
  • The Vietnamese government did not committ the unilateral visa exemption policy during the accession of WTO or negotiation of any multilateral trade agreements (For instant TPP, free trade agreements ASEAN, Australia, New Zealand, services trade agreements ASEAN – India), and no-country has that commitment. As such, all law, regulation, judicial decision would be published to ensure the transparency requirements.

Ho Tram resort facing delay; MGM Resorts International withdraws

The $4.2 billion Ho Tram Strip integrated resort is facing a delay in its opening due to the pull-out of its first resort’s operator and financing problem.

Its developer – Asian Coast Development (Canada) Limited (ACDL) – last week announced that MGM Resorts International (MGM) would no longer be able to manage the first of the Ho Tram Strip’s five resorts in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. The two sides did not revealed reasons for the termination of the agreement which MGM entered into five years ago to provide pre-opening services and to manage the first 1,100 room resort under the MGM Grand Ho Tram Beach brand.
