US to donate US$ 100,000 to Vietnam typhoon victims

The United States will grant US$100,000 as an urgent disaster relief to victims of Typhoon Xangsane which struck central Vietnam last week, leaving over 70 people dead or missing.

The money will be used to purchase essential relief supplies to support those affected by the typhoon.

According to disaster relief officials, more than 70 people in Vietnam have been confirmed dead or missing, over 520 people injured, US$ 620 million dollars of economic losses, with 300,000 houses and nearly 100,000 hectares (247,000 acres) of crops affected.
