Vietnam stands firm on corruption, says Foreign Ministry spokesman

HA NOI, Aug 29, 2008. Viet Nam has confirmed that acts of corruption and bribery will be strictly punished in accordance with law, without exception.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Le Dung said this yesterday when asked about Viet Nam’s response to a decision by the Japanese Public Prosecutor’s Office on Monday to prosecute four former executives of a company known as Pacific Consultants International (PCI) for allegedly bribing Vietnamese officials to win an Official Development Assistance (ODA) contract for the East-West Highway in HCM City.

Japan called for Vietnamese co-operation in investigating the case, said Dung, adding that Vietnamese agencies were inquiring into the issue upon receiving the request and documents from the Japanese side on August 21.
