Vietnam among most attractive manufacturing destinations (PricewaterhousCoopers) Amongst the Asian countries in the PwC EM20 Index, India tops the Manufacturing Index (ranked fourth overall), whilst Thailand (11th-Index value 82), Malaysia (13th-81) and China (14th-81) are ranked below Vietnam. Whilst Cambodia did not qualify for inclusion in the top 20 of the manufacturing index, largely due to the small size of its current manufacturing base, the country has been identified as a location with a promising future for manufacturing investment due to the wide availability of low-cost labour and its falling country risk premium.

The site had been translated into 20 languages including French, Spanish, and Mandarin, recently added 69 more. “Now, through translations, we are seeing a lot of growth in international countries,” says Javier Olivan, international manager at Facebook in a recent interview.
Olympics seen as corrupt payments tar pit The slogan for the Summer Olympics in Beijing may be One World, One Dream, but the games could turn out to be a nightmare for corporate participants. They hold the potential for a huge amount of litigation arising from charges of bribery and corruption of government officials by U.S. companies. “The Olympics present just such an opportunity for FCPA violations. The problem is that in China, almost everybody counts as a government official.”
Companies still need to crack down on corrupt payments to government officials The areas where FCPA violations were most likely to arise were in agent/consulting relationships (30.3 percent), foreign subsidiaries of U.S. companies (28.4 percent) and joint venture or strategic alliance partnerships (21.8 percent).
India’s Tata Steel to build steel plant in Vietnam The integrated steel complex with 4.5 million tonne capacity will be set up in Vung Ang Economic Zone in Ha Tinh province, will be built in three phases. In the first phase, a cold rolling mill will be commissioned by the end of 2010.

The emphasis has been on dial-up, but after a period with little interest in broadband this is starting to change.

So his company, Willem Smith, started operations in Vietnam and Ecuador. He found himself visiting factories 11 time zones away. By last year, the cost of making and importing one of his favorite pieces was ballooning. He was shipping Italian leather to Vietnam and then shipping the large chair back to the U.S.. There were other problems too, like inflation in Vietnam. So, he moved production to Hickory, N.C., which helped contain shipping costs.
