Senator Baucus urges Vietnam to lift restrictions on US beef But Baucus, a Democrat from Montana, where beef is a major export, and chairman of the influential Senate Finance Committee, praised Vietnam for allowing imports of beef from cattle under 30 months old.

US senator criticises Vietnam’s trade imbalance “We urge export countries seriously to move away from policies that focus so much on exports and instead to focus on local consumption. We also have to address the large imbalance of trade between the United States and Vietnam, a trend that cannot be maintained.”

Dow Jones Introduces First Global Anti-Corruption Database to Verify Employee Actions Dow Jones Anti-Corruption was developed following the request of a consortium of U.S. financial institutions which approached Dow Jones in 2007 to build a solution for managing exposure from the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other anti-corruption regulations. The institutions were subscribers of the Dow Jones Watchlist service (formerly Factiva Public Figures & Associates) and believed Dow Jones had the experience, resources and capability to develop a truly global anti-corruption solution.

Vietnam police launch probe in Japan ODA corruption case: state media Police in Vietnam have now launched a probe into PCI’s claims against Huynh Ngoc Sy, the Ho Chi Minh City senior transport official named in the Tokyo trial, who was suspended from his post last month, state media reported.

INTEL Vietnam Study Abroad Program: Application Deadline Jan 15, 2009 Intel Products Vietnam is pleased to announce the Intel Vietnam Study Abroad Program – the 2009-2011 Scholarship program to study at Portland State University (PSU), USA. The program is two-fold: A U.S. education experience and an engineering career with Intel in Vietnam. Intel will sponsor up to 40 current Third-year Engineering students from select universities to complete their Bachelor of Science degrees in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering at Portland State University (PSU). Upon graduation, the students will return to Ho Chi Minh City to begin exciting engineering careers with Intel at our new facility.

Siemens will pay $ 800 million to settle corruption case The scandal has been deeply painful for Siemens. It swept away a generation of managers, including former Chief Executive and much of the company’s board of management. They stood accused of at least turning a blind eye to widespread bribery. Dozens of middle managers have also had to go.

Tourist arrivals plummit in Vietnam as global downturn bites Despite strong growth rates early in 2008, only 3.9 million tourists had come to Vietnam in the year to November, with arrivals down 22% in November. “We forecast arrivals in 2009 will fall 20-30 percent from 2008 because of the global economic crisis,” said Binh. “So we need to invest more in tourism products to make them return to Vietnam.
