Vietnam’s Most Productive Companies 2010 Profiles International has conducted its first Vietnam study about labor productivity based on human capital analysis to better understand the factors driving employee productivity within an organization. Vietnam to have new leaders in January 11th Party Congress to convene Jan 12-19, choose new leaders, and approve a 5-year socio-economic strategy for 2011-2015 and a longer-term vision to 2020.

24,000 workers strike at S. Korean plants in Dong Nai Province At the Tae Kwang Vina footwear company, almost 20,000 employees refused to work Thursday and Friday, Dec 23-24, and 4,000 workers from the Namyang garment company did not turn up for work on Thursday in a demand for higher wages.

S&P Lowers Long-Term Foreign Currency Rating on Vietnam to BB-, Local Currency Rating to BB, Outlook Negative. The negative outlook reflects expectations that the current macroeconomic uncertainties will continue to weaken support for financial stability in Vietnam. The current lack of clear policy directions exacerbates these uncertaintiies. “We could lower the sovereign credit ratings if these uncertainties intensify significantly or if lending growth continues to outstrip nominal GDP growth.”

Vinashin may “jeopardize” Vietnam companies access to debt “The implication of the Vinashin default is that it might not be company-specific after all. The question now is why, seemingly for the sake of $ 60 million, has Vietnam jeopardized access to credit markets?”

Vietnam Central Bank Needs “Consistent” Policies, Analysts Say “Policies were very confusing in 2010,” and that affected the stability of the economy, sai Vo Tri Thanh, an analyst at the Central Institute for Economic Management. The inconsistency of the State Bank of Vietnam’s management of monetary and foreign exchange policy affected expectations of the central bank’s policies, he said.

Vietnam’s CPI increases a record level in December up by 1.98 percent over the last month, raising the CPI for the whole year to 11.75 percent, said the General Statistics Office (GSO) on December 24.

US Investment in Vietnam and the “third wave” of US-related investment The third wave is considered as starting in 2006-2007 with the huge project of Intel in Vietnam. In 2010, more than 20 US companies that top the “Fortune 1000” list arrived in Vietnam to assess business opportunities.
