VND slump pushes consumer prices up. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked all ministries and local governments to maintain stable prices this month and during the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival season to prevent inflation from quickening.

Crumbling infrastructure deterring investment. Weak infrastructure, especially roads, electricity and ports, is the most pressing issue for FDI firms. Rising labor costs are also an issue.

Fair tax rates will end Phu My Hung dispute: gov’t advisor. The dispute broke out early October 2009 when hundreds of Phu My Hung homeowners in District 7 complained they were being asked to pay land use taxes worth as much as the value of a house as a requirement for getting land use and house titles.

Overseas remittances to HCMC may slide 20%. Total remittances from overseas Vietnamese to Vietnam this year are expected at US$ 6.8 billion compared to US$ 7.2 billion last year.

General counsel have one more reason to pay closer attention to anti-bribery compliance. “Not only are we seeing people lose their jobs. But we’ve seen mounting fines and longer jail terms.
