Iconic building in HCM City With help from our international contractors and project partners, we succeeded in reviewing and to some extent rewriting existing building regulations and we set new and stringent benchmarks never-before-seen in Vietnam’s construction industry. We are pressing ahead with a plan to develop a mixed-used project named Ben Thanh Towers in the downtown, with offices, residential apartments, and a hotel and retail space. The project has a total investment capital of US$ 400 million and is scheduled for completion by 2015

Vietnam aims for a place in the top three garment and textile exporters The US remains the largest market for Vietnam’s apparel exports: of the total more than US$ 11 billion in 2010, the U.S. market accounted for more than US$ 6 billion, 22 percent more than in 2009.

Vietnam’s IT spending leads Asia Pacific: IDC Report up 17% year-on-year in 2011 following strong growth of 24.9% in 2010, making it the leading market for IT spending in the Asia Pacific region in terms of growth rate. Others say that many of today’s Vietnamese words have Chinese origins, so the most likely explanation lies in linguistics.

Equitization back on the agenda in Vietnam Economists believe that government support for inefficient SOEs, which soak up significant amounts of state cash, has been a major cause of Vietnam’s chronic macroeconomic instability, with stubbornly high inflation, a weak currency and sizeable trade and budget deficits. The near-bankruptcy of Vinashin, a large state-owned shipbuilder that in December defaulted on a $ 600m loan arranged by Credit Suisse, has increased pressure on the government to accelerate reform of SOEs, many of which are badly run and subsist on a diet of cheap government credit, preferential access to state land and monopoly market positions.

U.S. Investment and Trade Opportunities in Vietnam’s Southern Key Economic Region A “third wave” of U.S. FDI interest in Vietnam offers business opportunities. A robust and efficient trading and distribution environment will promote and support FDI.
