HCM City aims to end strikes Party Secretary Le Thanh Hai said that strikes are very serious in the city (HCM City has 1.5 million workers, 1 out of 12 workers is involved in strikes). The city needs to deal with two issues: taking care of the life of workers and assisting businesses to deal with difficulties.

Vietnam’s Inflation Accelerates to 22%, Highest Level Among Asia Economies The central bank reduced its repurchase rate to 14 percent from 15 percent on July 4 after a spate of increases since November to fight inflation, leading the IMF to say the cut may confuse investors.

Mizuho Financial said to be close to buying $ 760 million VietcomBank stake The $ 760 million valuation for 20 percent of Vietcombank would imply paying a 44 percent premium over the $ 528 million value of the stake at yesterday’s closing price, according to Bloomberg data. That would be Tokyo-based Mizuho’s biggest investment in a foreign company since it bought a stake in Merrill Lynch & Co. for $ 1.2 billion in 2008.
