First container ship sails on direct voyage from deep-water port in Vietnam to U.S. The new service of the global container shipping service firm APL will offer the industry’s fastest transit time from Vietnam to the American west coast, taking just 15 days to reach Seattle and 16 days to Los Angeles.
Vietnam makes “top ten” in outsourcing Up from Number 19 in 2007. Viet Nam was one of the three top countries in financial attractiveness, according to the report, but it was 28th in “people skills and availability.”

Currency and trade deficit worries for Vietanam The official exchange rate of the dong, having depreciated by 9 per cent last year, is down 2 per cent in the first six months of this year. But it has lost 4.1 per cent on the unofficial market and some predict a further 5 per cent fall.
Another effort to auction bonds At the last auction of government bonds on May 29, state-run Vietnam Development Bank failed to sell any of the 10-year debt. The State Treasury has also failed to raise much dong funds via auctions since February, sparking concerns about how Hanoi will fund a budget gap which could widen to a tenth of gross domestic product.
