PM Nguyen Tan Dung asked the central bank to implement measures to reduce interest rates and help the country achieve economic growth of 6.5 percent this year. “The State Bank of Vietnam needs to manage monetary policy flexibly, implement measures to bring down interest rates, control credit growth and keep exchange rates stable.”
IMF says Vietnam’s reserves fall to 7 weeks of imports from coverage of less than two-and-a-half months in December 2009. The central bank should make it clear that “monetary conditions will not be eased further until inflation is on a downward trajectory, sentiment toward the dong is firmly established and external reserves are rebuilt to more comfortable levels,” the IMF said.
U.S. Attorney General says more individuals to face bribery charges for violations of the FCPA Noting that the U.S. has prosecuted 80 individuals for FCPA violations since 2004, the attorney general said, according to his prepared remarks: “Prosecuting individuals is a cornerstone of our enforcement strategy because, as long as it (bribery) remains a tactic, paying large monetary penalties cannot be viewed by the business community as merely ‘the cost of doing business.’ The risk of heading to prison for bribery is real, from the boardroom to the warehouse.”
U.S. State Department Travel Warning for Thailand Canceled Jun 3, State of Emergency Remains The Department of State has canceled the May 27, 2010 Travel Warning for Thailand due to improvements in safety and security conditions throughout the country. The Thai government ended the nightly curfew May 29, 2010. However, a State of Emergency remains in effect in a number of provinces.
