Vietnam to see more franchise deals in 2012, market boom from 2014 The franchising market has been developing very rapidly in the last five years. Diageo tops up stake in Vietnam’s Halico to 45.5% Diageo raised its stake in Vietnam’s biggest spirits company Halico to 45.5 percent on Friday as part of the group’s strategy to increase its sales in fast-growing emerging markets. Myanmar’s clothing industry has a hard road aheadBefore American sanctions were imposed in 2003, the US was the premium buyer of Burmese textiles. The garment industry is slated to be a big future player within Burma’s underdeveloped economy. Indications that Vietnam could sustain per capita real GDP growth of more than 6% in the next five to 10 years could lead to a rating upgrade.
Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi addresses “World Economic Forum” in Bangkok (FDI) She said investors should retain “healthy skepticism” since Myanmar still lacked rule of law and that some investors were guilty of “reckless optimism.”
Denmark stops ODA grant for three projects following reports of widespread fraud. The Danish development minister, Christian Friis Bach, cut off funding to all three projects after an independent review by Price Waterhouse Coopers uncovered “numerous irregularities.”

ADB: Asian Development Outlook 2012 – Vietnam Outlook Safeguarding the banking sector should be the immediate priority. The longer-term requirement is to develop a diversified and efficient financial system that can mobilize the funding to meet the 7-8 percent economic growth target. These complex reforms, which will take years to complete, would benefit from coordination with the proposed restructuring of SOEs.
China + One = Vietnam and ASEAN ASEAN has the third-largest economy in Asia, after Japan and China. U.S. foreign direct investment (FDI) into ASEAN totaled $130 billion in 2007, the largest destination for U.S. FDI in Asia, and has grown 55% since 2004. As a developing region, ASEAN per capita income is low but its GDP is rapidly growing: an almost 170% increase over the past decade.
