A/P and ASEAN Integration: Opportunities and Challenges for Local and Global Firms, Fri, Mar 23. Four Ambassadors confirmed to participate. Panel discussion on moving information and goods across boarders. Lunch with Prime Minister (invited), dinner at Reunification Palace with Chairman of People’s Committee (invited). AmCham welcomes leaders of Asia-Pacific Council of AmChams (APCAC), which consists of 25 member AmChams that represent 10,000 businesses and 50,000 executives in 19 countries and economies of the Asia-Pacific region. The APCAC membership manages trade of over US$ 400 billion and direct foreign investment (FDI) of nearly US$ 300 billion. Participation is limited so register early to avoid disappointment.

Commerce Department Tutorial on Antidumping, Mon, Mar 26, Tue, Mar 27
Tutorial on the basics of antidumping and countervailing duty cases, which are managed by the Import Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Vietnam has lost 23 of 28 antidumping cases, so this might be a useful exercise.

Apparel Trade Preserved: Government issues circular on exports of apparel to the US
The Government’s objective is to assure all that there will be a predictable environment for U.S.-Vietnam apparel trade that will build confidence on the part of the major U.S. importers and retailers, as well as their suppliers in Vietnam. U.S. importers welcomed the new system. During 2006, U.S. imports of apparel from Vietnam were $3.4 billion, accounting for 40% of total U.S. imports from Vietnam of $8.57 billion.

Consulting Services for Long Thanh International Airport Master Planning
Change is coming fast in Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding “Southern Key Economic Zone.” Long Thanh International Airport is in Dong Nai Province, 50 km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City. When completed, the new airport will handle 80 to 100 million passengers and 5 million MT of cargo per year. Meanwhile, a new US$ 200 million international terminal with a capacity of 8 to 10 million international passengers per year is being completed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, which now handles one-half of all passenger traffic in Vietnam, and two thirds of Vietnam’s international arrivals and departures.
