Tue, Jun 19, Monthly Lunch: Intel’s Investment in Vietnam The future arrived in Vietnam, courtesy of Intel, on March 28, when the company officially started construction of a new assembly/test facility in Ho Chi Minh City’s Saigon Hi-Tech Park. What is now a former rice paddy will be transformed into a 500,000-square-foot plant that is expected to employ more than 4,000 people once it is completed. It will be the largest such facility Intel has every constructed. The new facility marks an inflection point not only for Intel, but for relations between two countries.

PM calls for tighter bird flu control

Microsoft arrangement with VN government agencies
The Vietnamese Government buys the copyright of the Microsoft Office software for all computer systems at central and local administration agencies. In addition, Microsoft and the Ministry of Post and Telematics will test-run and implement an ICT infrastructure development in Vietnam, helping the Government improve the capacity of providing services to the public, and develop human resources.
Tainted Chinese Food Imports Common
Despite those violations, the Chinese government is on track to get permission to legally export its chickens to the United States—a prospect that has raised concern not only because of fears of bacteria such as salmonella but also because Chinese chickens, if not properly processed, could be a source of avian flu, which public-health authorities fear may be poised to trigger a human pandemic.
The speculative mania sweeping Chinese stock markets is getting frothy. Beijing will need a smart policy mix (and fast) to settle things down.
