IMF: Vietnam’s economic outlook favorable, but banking sector a risk Vietnam has recorded continued strong economic performance. GDP growth rose to 8.2% in 2006. However, inflation picked up to 8.4% as of July 2007. Moreover, the favorable outlook is subject to risks. Large foreign exchange inflows and continued rapid credit growth, together with a weak regulatory environment, could threaten domestic financial stabiity. Additional risks include: insufficient improvement in banking sector and SOE governance.

Click on this link to give your internet connection a SPEED TEST with Web100 based Network Diagnostic Tool (NDT). By measuring the download and upload rate you are able to accurately judge your current line throughput or internet connection speed.

And what’s more, you can learn how to tune-up your system to speed up your connection. The throughput an application achieves is dependent on the amount of buffer space available in the sending and receiving hosts, packet loss due to errors or congestion, packet size (usually limited to 1500 bytes by Ethernet), and the round trip time between the 2 hosts. If this test reports that the sender or receiver buffer size is the limiting factor, increase the buffer size by changing the default buffer size on your computer.

There are several web sites that provide detailed tuning instructions for various Operating Systems. Two of the best are:

Pittsburgh Supercomputer Center’s Enabling High Performance Data Transfers

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s TCP Tuning Guide

These work, and quadrupled the speed of AmCham Vietnam’s internet connection, just by changing the buffer size.
