Why Companies Aren’t Getting the Employees They Need Some of the complaints about skill shortages boil down to the fact that employers can’t get candidates to accept jobs at the wages offered. That’s an affordability problem, not a skill shortage. A real shortage means not being able to find appropriate candidates at market-clearing wages. We wouldn’t say there is a shortage of diamonds when they are incredibly expensive; we can buy all we want at the prevailing prices.
Vietnam loses appeal to foreign investment amid economic woes Once seen as on its way to joining economic tigers Taiwan and South Korea, Vietnam has seen foreign investment decline sharply amid labor problems, crumbling roads, and the global financial crisis. . Now, the number of foreigners leaving Vietnam slightly exceeds those entering, contrasting a 4-to-1 ratio favoring arrivals in 2008, says Ralf Matthaes, regional managing director with market research firm TNS Global.
