President Biden will host Prime Minister Chinh and other ASEAN leaders for an in-person Summit later this month in Washington. This will be the first face-to-face meeting between President Biden and ASEAN leaders since he took office early last year, and it follows a virtual Summit held last October emphasizing the United States’ commitment to the region. We also anticipate a trip to the region by President Biden later this year.
In the lead up to these high-level visits, AmCham, in cooperation with VCCI and the US Chamber of Commerce, will hold our fifth US-Vietnam Business Summit on Tuesday, March 8 in Hanoi to discuss the future of the bilateral commercial relationship. We are honored and excited to have His Excellency Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh deliver the keynote address at the event. In addition, public and private sector leaders from the United States, Vietnam and across the region will participate.
There is an opportunity to elevate and intensify the engagement between our two countries on trade issues. Recognizing Vietnam’s economic dynamism and commercial and strategic significance, the United States hopes to enhance bilateral trade relations and promote fair and reciprocal trade. At the same time, Vietnam sees an opportunity to benefit from shifts in regional supply chains and attract more American investment to help fuel economic recovery after Covid-19.
Key discussion topics include:
- Promoting Sustainable Investment and Stable Policies to Energize Economic Recovery
- Driving Future Growth and Innovation through the Digital and Creative Economy
- Addressing Energy Development Needs to Fuel Vietnam’s Future Growth
