Event Description

Paula will discuss the basics of the U.S. federal estate and income tax law, including definitions of U.S. residency. Issues such as preparing an estate plan in more than one jurisdiction, how to address marital planning with non-citizen spouses and an overview of foreign account compliance issues will be addressed.

Jeremy will provide a U.S. expat tax update for 2019 and 2020 including: important tax changes, planning considerations, compliance tips and other topics relevant to Americans abroad.

Financial planning incorporates estate, tax, insurance, retirement, education & goal planning. Ann Marie will give an overview of financial planning for the Offshore American.

Time for questions and answers will be provided.

Speakers

Jeremy Stobie, CPA – CPS Family Office Services

Mr. Stobie has extensive experience in international taxation, private equity, due diligence, high net worth family planning and structuring, forensic accounting and immigration. He is a U.S. certified public accountant, a certified fraud examiner, certified in financial forensics by the AICPA.

Mr. Stobie holds the position of founder and managing director of CPS Family Office, a multi-family office and tax consultancy based in Singapore, which offers a broad range of services to family offices and international families, including due diligence, cross-border tax and structuring, citizenship and immigration by investment, and U.S. tax compliance and planning.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants,  an associate member of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants and a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree from Singapore Management University.

Paula M. Jones, Esquire – Paula M. Jones Law Offices

Paula M. Jones, Esquire is an attorney in the United States with over twenty years of experience advising high net worth individuals and business owners on all aspects of domestic and international estate law. Her work includes estate planning, pre-immigration and expatriation planning, administration of multinational estates, and foreign account and U.S. compliance issues. She started her own firm in 2016 and has offices in New York and Philadelphia.

Paula is currently an adjunct professor in International Estate Law at Western New England University School of Law where she teaches International Estate Law. She has guest lectured on succession of family-owned global businesses at Columbia University’s Masters of Business Administration Program and lectures frequently. She has authored several articles on international estate planning and other estate issues in respected industry journals such as Trusts and Estates, IFC Journal, American Institute of Certified Public Accountant’s Tax Advisor and the American Bar Association’s Practical Tax Lawyer.

Ann Marie Regal, CFP – American Expat Financial Planning

Ann Marie works with clients who have connections to America. She holds the US Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation and has been working in the financial services industry for over 20 years. Ann Marie is licensed to give financial advice by the MAS in Singapore and the SEC in America.

In 2015 & 2016 Ann Marie won the prestigious PlanPlus Global Financial Planning Award for Asia. The award is given to planners from three regions worldwide- the Americas, Asia and Europe. She submitted a written financial plan that demonstrated outstanding financial advice which focused on her client’s best interest.

Ann Marie is one of the only fee-based American financial planners in Singapore. She employs an integrated, consultative approach to assist her clients in all areas of financial planning including investment, tax, insurance, retirement and estate planning. A unique area of specialization is pre-US immigration planning.

Prior to moving to Singapore with her family in 2007, Ann Marie worked at Legg Mason Investment Counsel (LMIC), and its predecessors, providing highly tailored investment and trust strategies for affluent individuals, families and institutions. Before LMIC, Ann Marie worked at Goldman Sachs.

She holds a Bachelor Degree from Syracuse University and is a member of the Financial Planning Association in the US and Singapore. Ann Marie volunteers on the Investment & Finance subcommittees of The American Club, Singapore.
